Your Democratic Party
Who Are we
The Orange County Democratic Committee is the official arm of the Democratic Party in Orange County, New York. There are 21 towns and 3 cities in Orange County. Each one is entitled to have their own local Democratic Committee made up of elected or appointed representatives from each election district. Each district can have two representatives, meaning that our County Democratic Party could have over 600 individual district leaders if all seats were filled. A petition process every two years determines who represents each district, and if more than two people carry petitions for the same district, a primary may occur. Seats that are vacant can be filled by appointment. If an interested Democrat attends three meetings of their local Democratic Committee, they can be appointed by the Executive Committee to serve the remainder of that two year term. The Executive Committee of the Orange County Democratic Party is made up of the Party Officers, the Town Chairs, members of the New York State Democratic Committee, and appointees from Town Committee Chairs. The Executive Committee carries out the day to day business of the Democratic Party and meets every month.
